K-DRAMA NEWS - Mar 2026

There is a little bit of everything going on in dramaland this month.  We have silly, we have rom-com, we have revenge and thriller and legal with psychological twists.  It’s a good month to try out a number of different styles, a number of different streaming sources and see whose storytelling is the most captivating.


Pearl in Red – 붉은 진주

Viki, Kocowa – Starring: Park Jin-hee, Nam Sang-ji

Genre: Revenge, mystery

Kim Dan-hee (Park Jin-hee) has lost her twin sister, Kim Myeong-hee, after her sister discovered a shocking secret.  Now she pretends to be her sister in order to infiltrate Adel Group and try to take control of the company.  Baek Jin-ju (Nam Sang-ji) has lost her family because of Adel Group’s actions and she also abandons her true identity to try to seek revenge.  Kim Dan-hee and Baek Jin-ju join forces to try to plan a takeover of Adel group and plot their revenge.

 

The Practical Guide to Love – 미혼남녀의 효율적 만남

Viki, HBO Max – Starring: Han Jimin, Park Sung-hoon, Lee Ki-taek, Jung Hye-sung, Kim So-hye

Genre: Rom-com

Based on a Naver webtoon called Efficient Dating for Singles, the story follows Lee Ui-yeong (Han Ji-min) who is a stressed-out single with a mother pushing her to get married.  She has been going on blind dates and is now torn between two very different men.  Song Tae-seop (Park Sung-hoon) is reliable, kind and very certain about settling down, which confronts Lee Ui-yeong’s fears of commitment.  The second guy, Sin Ji-su (Lee Ki-taek), comes to the date with a fake identity, but charms her with his carefree personality and his spontaneity, which gives Ui-yeong a new perspective on what love could look like.  Ui-yeong needs to figure out what love actually means to her and which guy will lead her there.

 

Siren’s Kiss – 세이렌

Amazon Prime – Starring: Park Min-young, Wi Ha-hoon, Kim Jun-hyun, Lee Elijah

Genre: Romance, psychological thriller

This series is based on the 1999 Japanese series, Koori no Sekai by Hisashi Nozawa.

An insurance inspector, Cha Woo-seok (Wi Ha-hoon), is part of his company’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and is investigating a high-profile art auctioneer, Han Seol-ah (Park Min-young) after a pattern of emerges of mysterious deaths of her former lovers and an anonymous tip is reported to the insurance company Cha Woo-seok works for.

As Cha’s investigation unfolds, he is pulled into a psychological battle with Han, trying to figure out if she is the “siren” orchestrating these deaths or the victim of an elaborate conspiracy.  He is pulled by his attraction to her, which could ultimately lead to his death – will he survive long enough to figure out the truth?

 

Boyfriend on Demand – 월간남친

Netflix – Starring: Jisoo, Seo In-guk

Genre: Rom-com, fantasy

A webtoon producer, Seo Mi-rae (Jisoo), is burned out by her career.  She has no dating life, because of the rigorous demands of her job.  By chance, she receives a ‘Monthly Boyfriend’ device – a virtual reality subscription-based service that allows you to encounter the perfect boyfriend in any variety of settings, awakening her long dormant desires for true romance.

Her colleague, Park Gyeong-nam (Seo In-guk), is a rival webtoon producer.  He’s good at his job, but Mi-rae feels uncomfortable around him.  Gyeong-nam is the last person she wants to see outside of work, but, of course, as she experiences her VR romantic world, her views of him slowly start to change.

This series is choc-a-block full of special appearances as fantasy dates, which should be very fun.

 

Still Shining – 샤이닝

Netflix – Starring: Park Jin-young (Jinyoung), Kim Min-ju, Shin Jae-ha, Park Se-hyun

Genre: Rom-dram, coming-of-age, melodrama

Yeo Tae-seo (Park Jin-young), is a subway driver who views the world practically and realistically, living life safely, with a predictable routine and in the present moment.  Mo Euh-ah (Kim Min-ju) was previously the manager of a hotel and is now a lodging manager and lives her life passionately, deeply and with defined goals.  The two were first loves who parted ways due to an unexpected incident.  They meet again, now both in Seoul, a decade after parting ways.  The unexpected reunion brings unexpected changes to their set routines.

 

Phantom Lawyer – 신이랑 법률사무소

Viki, Netflix – Starring: Yoo Yeon-seok, Esom

Genre: Legal, mystery, fantasy

Premieres Mar 13 | Ha Na-hyeon (Esom) is an elite lawyer with a perfect track record.  She is driven entirely by her desire to win her cases, which has let her climb to the top of her field.  She loses her first case to Shin I-rang (Yoo Yeon-seok).  Shin I-rang is just an ordinary lawyer who has moved into a new office that used to be a shaman’s house.  He wants to create a successful law office, but he starts to see ghosts and they want him to seek justice for them.  When one of the ghosts actually possesses him, he turns into a different person, driven by the ghost to win the case that will bring them justice.

At first, Ha Na-hyeon does not believe that Shin I-rang can see ghosts.  But then she starts to witness strange things and slowly begins to open up to I-rang.  As she opens up, she also begins to confront her old and hidden wounds that have turned her into the ruthless and calculating lawyer that brought her success.

 

Mad Concrete Dreams – 대한민국에서 건물주 되는 법

Viki, HBO Max – Starring: Ha Jung-woo, Im Soo-jung, Kim Jun-han, Jung Soo-jung, Shim Eun-kyung

Genre: Black comedy, crime, thriller

Premieres Mar 14 | Owning a building in Korea is a symbol of success.  Ki Su-jong (Ha Jung-woo) was once just an ordinary office worker, but he decides to risk everything and incur mountains of debt to try to become a landlord and reach that ultimate symbolic status.  He dives into a practice called yeongkkeul (영끌), which means scraping together every, single penny, including one’s soul (literally meaning “gathering even your soul”) in order to maximize every, possible loan and afford a down payment on real estate.  The result is unaffordable debt and its consequences.  In order to avoid foreclosure and the ruin of his family, he becomes involved in a criminal scheme that goes off the rails and leads him into further personal and legal complications.  Along with his best friend, he plans a staged kidnapping in the building’s basement…that soon turns into a real kidnapping.  Su-jong’s choices all lead in bad directions as those around him all have their own motives and desires for survival.

 

Climax – 클라이맥스

Viki, Disney+ - Starring: Ju Ji-hoon, Ha Ji-won, Nana, Oh Jung-se, Cha Joo-young

Genre: Political, survival, noir

Premieres Mar 16 | All is fair in love, politics and entertainment.  Bang Tae-seop (Ju Ji-hoon) is suddenly a top prosecutor, simply because he married Korea’s favorite actress – Chu Sang-a (Ha Ji-won).  Chu Sang-a, however, is now considered washed up because of this marriage.  Both will stop at nothing – including betraying each other – to remain at the top rung of their success.
